Adding an IDE HD to SATA System?

My 8300 has a SATA drive, and I cannot add an IDE HD. I want to add a 40GB Fujitsu IDE drive to move files from my old PC and to use it as a backup HD. I set the jumper as "cable select" on the IDE HD to configure it as a "slave" and connected it to the HD IDE connector on the motherboard using a UDMA cable. I went to BIOS configuration menu, but the BIOS recognized the IDE HD as an "unknown device." When booting, the PC tells me "Primary drive not found."

Is it possible to add an IDE HD to my system, or must I add a SATA HD?

You should have IDE controllers on the motherboard that you can attach IDE drives to. You just need ribbon cable for the effort.
