Adding SATA on 4600 w/ 2 HDs

I just bought a SATA from Dell for a friend for Christmas but his computer only has ATA. So I thought I'd just end up putting in in my 4600. The problem is I already have a second HD in it and I remember correctly it only has two slots. Also, I've never installed a SATA and need to know if installing is any different. For the HD, could I backup my old system HD and put it on the new one and replace it? My main system drive is 40GB and I installed a 120GB. However, both have very full. My system only has 542MB open and my extra HD only has 120MB. So I can't back my files up on the second HD. Thanks in advance.

Does your motherboard support a SATA HD? If so, you should be set to go. You'll probably need a new cable for your SATA HD though. However if your motherboard is not currently set up to take on a SATA HD, you'll probably have to buy a PCI card that will allow you to have a SATA HD (if I remember that correctly).

I did a quick check on this site and it looks like the 4600 motherboard has two SATA inputs. I'll have to buy some connectors first though. Then figure out how to get the files backed up.
