Another DVD/CD-RW driver problem

I have two problems each related with eachother!

#1. CD-RW Samsung (i believe) SW-252 is not showing up in "My computer" and i cannot open disks or even try to reformat! this happened today and is freaking me out.. also in the bios i looked usb cd rom drive and it is unidentified!

#2 DVD drive Hitachi-LG  model: GDR-8163B is also having the same exact problem as above and i would like it if someone could please point me in the right direction so i can fix this or hopefully reformat my computer tonight!

I am running on a Dimension 8400!

Hi Eversm,

Shutdown, open the case and reseat (unplug/replug) the IDE cable going from the motherboard to the back of each drive. Turn the system on, did this help?
If it does not, lets run some of the standard trouble shooting steps. Try the first article, if it does not work, move to the next.
Please click on the CD/RW link in my post and scroll to Section 15, article 1; Section 20, article 3; Section 100, article 31 (Ignore the reference to Roxio); Section 11, article 2.
All these cover the drivers, controller, Upper & Lower filters and Clearing the NVRAM.

Best Regards

Hi Eversm,

Since the 8400 series has only one IDE channel, you should see a reference to
"Primary IDE Channel", right click on this and choose Uninstall.

Hi Eversm,

Humm, interesting, same CD/RW link, take a look at Section 15, article 14, scroll down to the pictures of Device Manager, you "should" see something familiar.
For now, skip Section 20, move to the next article while I browse some additional information.

Best Regards

In Section 15, article 14,  I've looked at it has 0000, 0001,0002,0003, the first two ones.. 0000,0001 are the ones taht are listed in device manager while 0002 has the name Primary IDE Channel and 0003 has the name Secondary IDE channel for their DriverDesc... i'm thinking 0000, and 0001 are hte trouble drivers but shouldn't be used.... and 0002, and 0003 should be deleted an then redected and hopefully used soo shud i remove 0002 and 0003 from registry and reboot and see if windows registers them now?? b/c they are both registered by Microsoft and idk why my computer can't recognize them even though they are the right IDE channels..

If you have any messengers we could talk faster and just contact me on this board through pm if you wanna do that b/c it will go by faster. and also on 0000 and 0001 it says it's provider is intel... shouldn't it say microsoft and on the sub-menu 0002 it says Master stuff in it but not MasterIdDataChecksum

Also i have pictures if you wanan see them on msn messenger of my regedit so u can see what it looks like while i'm trying to fix this.

Hi Eversm,

The PM`s are limited in space. As for that article, I am sorry my bad, I just wanted to show you what I was speaking about in regards to what one "should" see under the IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers, please ignore that for now and move to Section 100, article 31.

I am currently working on two PC`s at the same time on two different web sites but I will keep checking back & forth for about the next 30 minutes, 10:30 PM here in Virginia and 4:00AM comes early!

Best Regards
