Bad Hard Drive?

Has anyone recieved a new system and it just won't work? I recieved a new 4600 and got nothing but white dots on my screen when I turned the system on. I then called tech support and went through an hour of steps including trying to reload XP via the disk that came with the machine and the reload even stops in mid load and the letters on the screen all scramble. They are sending me a new disk but it sounds to me like I'll be shipping the whole thing back.

Thanks for the info Bev! One more question. Would I have to send everything back (both boxes) or just the hard drive? The keyboard and mouse all came in the same box with the hard drive and the monitor was seperate.

Request that Dell send you a replacement system, that will hopefully work, under their "Complete Satisfaction" policy.  You have 21 days from the invoice date for this.

Usually, just CPU [tower].  Dell will send you a replacement unit, then using the same box, you will ship the "old" unit back to Dell, a prepaid shipping label and instructions will be included, at no cost to you.
If you ship your present system back to Dell for credit, then you will have to pay the shipping charges.

Well, I must say that Dell really came through for me. When I first started reading some of the horror stories in here, I had my doubts, but, in my case, I'm very pleased. They actually sent a tech out to replace the entire insides of my PC so I wouldn't have to box it up and send it back. Now, the only question I have left is:

The tech ran the Reinstall XP disc while he was there and told me to load all of the other discs that came with the system when I get time. Do I simply put each disc in and click on My Computer and then the disc drive? Will this start the loading of each one? Thanks!
