Battery doesnt last

I'm getting my dads old inspiron 8100. The battery doesnt last more then 45 minutes and I know that it has rarely been unplugged from the wall, defeats the point of the notebook. Should i just get a new battery or is it normal to only have 45 minutes of battery life.

Assuming that everything else is in order, I would venture a guess that the battery has outlived its' efficient and useful life.

Battery life is about 1 year. I'll bet yours is much older. :smileyhappy:

I'm pretty sure that it is older then one year. But i though that since it was rarely ever unplugged from the wall that it would last longer.

This is a good tutorial on LION batteries. Bottom line, you need to use them for them to last. Just keeeping the battery plugged in will not work.

I had Dell bateries last on my 8100 for 2+ years. I actually noticed a horrid decline in batt life on the replacement sent to me by Dell. They say, "Open wallet, take out credit card, $100." I think I'll survive with 1h of batt life. One tip, don't run em all the way down and you can squeeze some extra life out of em. Don't give in to the money machine called Dell. Time to move to Apple.
