Is that all it says about the drive in the system specifications?
Anyways... "6x" is the speed at which it can read Blu-Ray discs (six speed).
"Slot loading" means just that, really. You load the discs into a slot in the drive, rather than placing them in/on the tray found in most optical drives.
"BD-ROM": As with any drive with that tag, ROM denotes it's a (Blu-Ray) disc readeronly - i.e. it can't write to Blu-Ray discs.
BD is simply the (somewhat strange choice of) abbreviation for Blu-Ray Disc? It ought to have been BRD or B-RD :emotion-55:
Finally... a "combo-drive" is one which has dual capabilities.
In this instance - although it's difficult to know for sure, without knowing the specific make/model number, I suspect it can also read/write to standard DVD discs as well?
I'd wager that post is simply going to confuse the OP Robin - rather than help them in any way :emotion-43:
Their drive is not a Blu-Ray writer, so I don't know why you've mentioned the different types of writeable discs in the first place?
More importantly however, stating that "BD is blu-ray for write once", is completely wrong!
As I've already mentioned... BD is short for Blu-Ray Disc - nothing more, nothing less. It has absolutely nothing to do with whether the drive is a reader or a writer :emotion-42:
For the sake of the OP, I'll repeat - because it's very important: A ROM drive - be it a CD-ROM, DVD-ROM, or BD-ROM, can't write to discs at all - not even once :emotion-55:
The OP's drive is a BD-ROM, which means it can can only read Blu-Ray discs.
Whilst it's *possible* the "combo" part of the drive description, means it also includes a DVD writer, that's a different matter entirely.
Hi aps@sun, BD is blu-ray for write once. Like the DVD-R or +R BD-RE is Blu-ray for Rewrite, like the DVD-RW or +RW
Hi The RealFireBlade, The above disc are the standard Blu-ray disc's that are used in BD Rom drives. To write to these disc, yes you will need a rewrite. However, you will only need an Rom drive to play these disc's. I have an Blu-ray rewrite, so i know what im talking about.
Hey guys, what is the model number for the slot loading BD-ROM that works in the Studio 1737? For some reason it look like you can't build the Studio 17 with that option any more.... I'd like to buy one and install it in my Studio 17.

Thanks to each of you for your replies. I was just trying to figure out if I could write to a disc using this drive.
