BIOS update: can I use a flash drive?
I'm playing with my xps txxx. I would like to update the BIOS to A11, but the floppy drive is out of commission. I can get to that later (I've frustrated myself with it before). One of theoffered options calls for downloading, then creating a series of floppies from the zip file. Does this mean I wouldn't need a boot disk? Could I put the series on a flash drive instead?

That's an old desktop. I highly doubt that it has the ability to boot into USB to let you update your BIOS from a flash drive.

Thanks for your answer, even though it's not encouraging! I can run -and boot- from a linux mint live cd; I have upgraded the USB to 2, with drivers I found on a UK site, and that seems to work. The computer sees the flash drive-I formatted it on the txxx. So maybe it's worth a try?
