Burner wouldn't recognize CD

Question

I posted my experience with different colored CD's under the same subject.  Here is additional information: I gave the green CD's that wouldn't work for me, to my son.  He has a very good Dell desktop that is only a couple months old.  The green CD's wouldn't work in his burner either.

What is the brand? 'Green' doesn't narrow it down much. :)

What brand and type are the CD's. The color won't matter. My computer will not recognize certain brands of CD's. Then there is the question of what type like CD-R, CD-RW and so forth. You need to check the documentation that came with the burner to see what type of CD's it will accept.

They were Fujifilm CD's.

Here is the burner I have: HL-DT-ST CD-RW GCE-8481B   I haven't tried any blue CD's.

Hi Wolfman,John is off line at the moment and Lisa has her setting set so I cannot tell. They may not have checked your previous thread, Gold colored CD`s do work with your drive, did the Blues work, just curious? I have had good luck with Fujifilm myself but as I mentioned before some drives are frankly picky. For now, go to Device Manager, click the '+' next to DVD\CD-ROM Devices and list the name/model of the drive in question. Hi Wolfman,First, click on the CD/RW link in my post and scroll to Section 15, articles 14 & 17 and lets verify that the drive is running in DMA mode (UDMA 2) and not PIO mode.Dell does not have a firmware update for this drive, however I did find one hereBut I must tell you that the use of a non-Dell validated firmware will void the warranty on the drive. Also I have no idea if this will work, it may even trash the drive, there were no reviews on its use.I know if you are like me, I want to fix it..however since you can now purchase a 16X DVD+/-RW drive fro less than $40 at New Egg, consider how much time and effort you want to spend on a CD/RW drive....just a thought my friend.Best Regards God, grant me the senility to forget the people I never liked anyway, the good fortune to run into the ones I do and the eyesight to tell the difference. I recorded one music cd using wmp.  When I tried to record data, the burner wouldn't work.  Bottom line: I installed new software.  I have recorded data, using the new software.
