BURNING MP3S

First, turn the Caps off, you don't have to shout.

As far as burning MP3's, you are correct you can get quite a few on a CD. I have one that has 175 MP3's on it.

But the "15" number sounds like you are burning regular wav files instead of MP3. I don't have the Roxio basic, I have the Platinum version so I don't remember if you have the MP3 Project. But if you do, you just drag the MP3 song files you want to the bottom of the screen which is the area to place MP3's to be burned on a CD-R. Do not format the CD-R first. According to Roxio you can get 703.12Mb on an 80 minute CD and most MP3's run 2 to 3 MB each.

If the songs are not in MP3 form you will have to convert them to MP3 first.

At 128 KBPS...you can get 1 minute of music for every MB of space.

yep they are mp3s maybe its because i used a disc that was formatted for usage with direct cd ????

OK ILL TRY THAT AND LET YOU KNOW ...I WAS USING CD REW ALSO BUT I JUST GOT SOME CDRS SO WELL SEE HOW THAT WORKS THANKS FOR THE HELP AND I FORGOT THE CAPS WAS ON ..SIGH

Gunned, you are correct. Don't use a preformatted CD. You only need to us a blank CD-R.

The only time you need to format a CD is if you are going to copy files or "drag and drop" like you would any other storage device, hard drive, floppy, etc.

I also have Roxio Basic and when I want to burn an MP3, I select make a data cd and load my files and burn them. I have made 6 like that so far and all play on our DVD-CD-MP3 player. One has 225 song files on it and plays 12 hrs and 2 minutes. In the basic version of Roxio, if I select make a music cd from the Project Selector, the make an mp3 cd is greyed out. So I went to the Easy CD Creator program, went to the file menu, selected make a data cd, loaded my files and burned them. The first time I did this, I posted on this forum asking if it could be done, and never did get a responce, so I decided to give it a go and it worked.

Joe, I've also just copied MP3 files to a preformatted CD-R and it worked. I tried it just to see.

I wasn't sure about the Music Project in the Basic version. But your way does work.

ive burned it successfully using make music cd on cdr but it will only fit 16 ..should i use data instead ???when buring using windows media player it says its converting files ...does that mean its changing them to wav from mp3 hence the extra space used up???also when copying disc from one to the other using dosc copy it just sticks on prepare data and doesnt enter the copying phase.does anyone know what the sit is?using roxio basic win xp and got latest patch but no matter what i try cant copy a game or music cd from one disc to another any further replies would be greatly appreciated

gunned:To make an mp3, select make a data cd then select the files you want to burn and burn them. When I do an mp3 burn I create a seperate folder and copy my music files to this folder. Do not go over 700 MB when adding files to the folder, if you are using an 80 min or 700MB cd. You can determine this by right clicking on the folder and clicking on properties. This will show you how many MB you have in the folder. As far as burning from one cd to another, I've not tried that. From reading posts in this forum, I think most advise that you copy your cd's to a folder on your harddrive first and burn from it. If the source drive doesn't supply data fast enough to the burner drive, you probably will get a buffer underrun error, which would stop the burning process.
BTW I've never formatted or used a preformatted cd. I thought they were used only when copying data using 'Direct CD'.

Along with what everyone above has stated and to summarize for you:

MusicCD Project will take mp3 files and convert them to wav. This will play on most all standard CD players. You generally average 15-20 titles per disk. In effect, you end up with a CD like the Recording Industry makes.

DataCD Project will take mp3 files and keep them as mp3. These will play only on CD players that specifically state they will play mp3s. You generally average 150-175 titles per disk.

Wav is what music (audio) CDs are, while mp3 is compressed data.

If you want audio (wav) on a CD use MusicCD Project.

If you want mp3s on a CD use DataCD Project.

You helped me before, hope you can again.  I want to burn my MP3s (ripped from my CDs) onto a compilation CD, as MP3s (so I can fit a ton of songs on 1 CD).  OK, so do I  just drag the whole folder  of songs over to be burned or do I have to open it up so that I see all the songs in the folder??  Kinda dumb question...hope I explained myself. Will my MP3/CD player be able to play the songs within each folder?
