cannot burn to vcd using corel slideshow

Question

I keep getting a fatal error and the program shutting down. I just purchased this computer dim. 510 with 1 gig of ram 3.2 p4 processor. the dvd drive is a HL-DT-ST DVD+-RW GWA4164B   tried to uninstall the drivers and reinstall but that didn't work. I can burn music dvd using the sonic program that came with the computer but cant burn to pictures to vcd. anyone? I did notice that in the vcd setting in the program the burn rate comes up as 48 and you cannot change the speed to anything else.

Hi Quazzer,When you say 'program' shutting down, do you mean Windows or the burning program you are using. If Windows, go to Device Manager, select the drive click Uninstall, shutdown. Open the case and disconnect the drive from the IDE cable and the Power Cable. If it the second drive 'Middle' connection on the IDE cable, fine, if it is the drive in the Top bay and you have another drive, move the 'end' connection to the other drive. Now re-boot, does the fatal errors vanish? If so, I would contact Dell for a replacement.Best Regards! No it's not windows it just closes down corel photo album when I try to burn a vcd. I installed JASP photo Album and it gets to the place to choose write speed and there is none to choose from. Im sure that the problem is the hardware does support the software or vice versa. but no driver updates to the drive or software update either. what now?

Yes I tried it agian just to make sure. I went into device manager and clicked the ide and deleted the primary and secondary and rebooted. I went back and checked the primary ide advanced settings and it changed to a ultra dma mode 5 and the other primary changed to a DMA ultra mode 2 then the secondary said dma if available.  I went back into photo album and went to burn again and it sayed the same thing. No write speed chosen. There are no speeds to choose from. Im lost
