Cannot Copy -filename-: Invalid MS-DOS function

Question

I've got a brand new dell and when I try to copy files off of a cd-r in my samsung sc-148a drive I get the following error. Cannot Copy -filename-: Invalid MS-DOS function.   Any ideas on how this can be fixed. I've updated all the drivers and the problem hasn't gone away. Thanks....

Are you using Explorer to copy or some other method?

I'm selecting all the files on the cd and dragging them over to the new folder on the harddrive. I've also tried to use the copy files button that windows XP has. I get the same error both ways

Running a Google search on your exact error message gives lots of hits but I can't say I found a solution.  Do you have Service pack 2 installed?  That might help.  Sorry I can't give you an exact fix, but do what I did for further info.

Hi GJ,Just to add with Europa`s, is this the only disc you are having problems with and have you had the chance to possibly check the disc on another PC to see if it works there?Since the system is brand new, I would open the case and re-seat the IDE cable going from the motherboard to the back of the drive, a loose IDE cable can cause odd issues.I believe Dell has a firmware update for this drive but one would almost assume considering the time span of introducing this drive into stock and a new 9100, Samsung would be shipping drives with a newer firmware.Best Regards God, grant me the senility to forget the people I never liked anyway, the good fortune to run into the ones I do and the eyesight to tell thedifference. Thank you for your reply. Yes I've tried it with a lot of different cd's and I'm having the same problem with all of them. These same cd's all work in other computers I have on my network. But I will open up the box and see there are any loose connections. Good Idea! If nothing else I'll just replace the drive with a different one from another computer.
