Cannot copy to my E drive

 I am using a Dimesion 9100. It is about 3 years old. I am now having a problem copying to a cd in my E drive. I am getting a message saying "Windows is unable to read the CD ROM in drive E - make sure the door is closed and there is a valid data disk in drive E". This also happens if I put a disk in the D drive - get the same message. What do I need to do to fix this?

Thanks - I checked the box that was not checked and it seemed to allow me to copy. ( It is a backup of my checkbook that I am trying to preserve.)
It seemed as if it copied, but when I try to pull it back up it is now telling me that  it is "not a valid win32 application".     I am fairly ignorant with this stuff -  what does that mean?

Hi Gemphx,

Knowing the name/model of your D: and E: drive may help but for now lets run a few standard steps. Under My Computer check the properties of the drive and if see if you a Check mark in the box "Enable CD recording for this drive" for either of your drives.
If the above is correct or adding the check mark does not help;
Go to Device Manager, select the D: drive, click Uninstall; then select the E: drive and click Uninstall, now shut the system down (not Restart). Open the case and reseat (unplug/replug) the IDE cable going from the mother board to the back of each drive. Close the case and turn the system on. Did this help?
If not, click on the CD/RWW link in my post and scroll to Section 20, article 3; Section 100, article 31.
See if any of the above helps.

Seasons Greetings !

Hi Gemphx,

I did some searching on this message and mercy tons of stuff.

This is just one at Dell:
Here
Is there more to this error message: C:\something\something\something.exe is not a valid Win32 aplication?

Are you using XP`s built-in program to create the CD or another program?

Hi Gemphx,

On the left of Dell`s page, click on the Drivers and Downloads link, enter information for system; then scroll to Applications and see if there is a Sonic update for your version. If so, please give it a try.

Seasons Greetings !
