Can't initialize disk on Precision 690

Hello,

Yesterday one of my raid disks quit working, luckily I ran a full system backup the night before.  I need help getting my raid disk back in working order.

I have a Dell Precision 690 with integrated SAS 5/iR running XP64.  The SAS 5/iR controls 4 SATA300 ports and the AHCI controls 3 SATA300 ports that are seperate from the SAS 5/iR ports.  I have two sets of disks that are in RAID 0 and are controlled by the SAS 5/iR.  One raid volume holds the OS and the other holds data, they are both working just fine.

The two disks that are controlled by the AHCI are 80GB Western Digital, they are the same model number and size and have been working as a raid for about 4 years now.  After my raid set failed I removed both disks and put them into another PC one at a time and they both appear to work fine with no errors(I was able to delete the existing partitions, create new partitions, format, write data, etc.).  Before I removed the disks drive from the other PC I deleted the partitions I created to make sure that both disks don't have any data to conflict.

I have reinstalled both disks back into the Precision 690.  When I go into the BIOS I can see both disks and I don't get any errors and both disks appear to be separate.  When I go into XP64 and start Disk Management it appears that both disks have automatically been combined into an uninitialzed 149.01GB RAID volume.  I immediately get a wizard to initialize the disk.  The first option in the wizard is to select the disk to initialize.  Disk 0 is the only disk in the list and it already has a check mark next to it so I click next.  The next form asks if I want to make the disk a dynamic disk.  I have tried both leaving it as a regular disk and making it a dynamic disk but I get the error "The operation did not complete.  Check the System Event Log for more information on the error " after I click Finish.  When I look at the System Even Log there isn't any mention of a disk error.  What is odd is that the 149.01GB RAID is about 10GB short of what two 80GB disks should RAID to.  I don't know if it is the AHCI that is making the RAID volume or if it is XP that is doing it, but I tend to think that it is the AHCI because I have created a RAID from two disk before on other computers through Disk Manager.

I have tried reinstalling XP64 from scratch but that hasn't made a difference.

I have been trying to use Diskpart to initilize the disk manually but I have not been able to get the commands right.  I have been trying various suggestions that I found through Google but they all seem to be for another version of Diskpart.  Does anybody know the correct procedure to use for Diskpart in XP64.

Should I try going into the BIOS and resetting everything to default and start from scratch?  I installed the latest BIOS update about three years ago, should I install it again in the unlikely event that it has become corrupted?
