CD brand suggestions
My computer is a Dell Inspiron 530S with Microsoft Home XP 2002 (Sp2) and I have a question in regards to burning music cds'. The cd burner is a GCCH10N.
In previous burning sessions I have used have used three types of cd. None work satisfactorally.
1. Maxell CD-R
2. Maxell CD-R Music
3. Memorex CD-R.
In short, is there a brand someone could suggest that has been successful with this burner model. This is my first time with cd burning and it seems many have hinted that the burner-cd relation can be very tempermental. Thank you.

Hi Joey,
Usually I have had good luck with Maxell, although I like Verbatim and Fujifilm the best.
Here is a quote from John
Media:
recommend Verbatim (owned by Mitsubishi), Maxell (made in Japan, can be hard to find), and Taiyo Yuden.
Many tend to burn CD`s at a lower speed, some as low as 8X, me I tend to stay around 16X.
Dell does have a firmware update for the drive. The fixes state corrects an issue with Vista but many will help the drive in areas not listed at the time of the release.
GCC-H10N
Best Regards!

Hi Joey,
The date can be misleading, it depends on the current stock of drives Dell had with configuring your system. Dell does not flash the drives, the new shipment must have the latest available update. We never really know what firmware the drive may have.

I did have limited success with the initial pack of Maxell CD-R but since have purchased another 5 pack of same with different results. On the new burns I am unable to jump between tracks (indexing issue). There was basically two types of trouble with my initial set of burns - distortion of electronic sounds, and a type of tracking distortion not unlike what a record groove might produce.
As to the drive update, it's release date is given to be 4/12/07 and I purchased my computer just this past November so I would imagine it is included.

I did another burn with the Maxell CD-R and it still won't allow me to index through the selections. I think it's to do with this batch of cd's as it hasn't happened before.
Have you ever had a drive that wouldn't produce a correct burn until a brand was discovered to work properly? Anyhow I'll look into the 3 brands you suggested. I previously saw these brands mentioned (along with others) at a another site but was hesitant to keep throwing good money after bad looking for a solution.
Thanks for you help.
