CD Burner not working :-(

I have a Dell Inspiron 2650 and my CD burner is not working.  A message always pops up saying to insert a blank CD, when there's already one in there.  I've tried cleaning the device and using different brands of CDs and still no luck.  Does anybody have any suggestions of how I can fix it at home, or know where I can bring it to get it fixed?

I cam e across something on the Toshiba Techra line that had similar symptoms.  There are different speeds of media as well as surface color.  Make sure the media speed is the same as the burner.  Media should be backwards compatible to slower burners and slower media should be compatible with faster burners. (You will just have a limitation on speed there).  The main problem that I ran into was the Toshiba laptops did not like the purple glass surface (the burn side).  I had to go get a different color, green tint and they worked just fine.  Does your media work in another burner?  Is the media fresh and never used.  Some burners don't like multi-session media or RW media.  Hope it helps. and good luck.

Hmmm...I thought they were all silverish, but I have tried multiple brand, multiple speeds, and even different types of CDs (CD-Rs, CD-RWs, data CDs).
