If the recording tab is missing, please perform these steps.

1.Click Start, and then click Run.2.In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK.3.Expand the following registry subkey:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\CD Burning\Drives
4.On the File menu, click Export.5.In the File name box, type backup of drives key, and then click Save.

Note You can restore this registry subkey by double-clicking the backup of drives key.reg file that you saved.6.In the left pane of the Registry Editor window, click the Volume{GUID} folder under Drives, where GUID is a 32-character hexadecimal globally unique identifier.

Note If you have more than one CD-ROM drive in the computer, an additional Volume{GUID} folder is listed for each drive.7.In the right pane of the Registry Editor window, double-click Drive Type.8.In the Value data box, type 1 or 2, depending on the drive type, and then click OK.

The drive type should be 1 if it is a CD-R and 2 if it is a CD-RW.9.Quit Registry Editor.

Hi Student,

Usually it is not my style to butt-in once another Member is working thread, so I will drop a note and slide back into stealth mode. To answer your question about the Upper & Lower Filters. This issue has been around since Windows XP first came out, Roxio`s was the first software mentioned, however we have seen it with almost all third party burning programs including iTunes. Both Dell and Microsoft have support articles on the steps and it is best to reference the link rather than copy & paste the instructions on the board. Each article has additional information, for example you may have entries under Controlset 001, 002, 003; also Microsoft`s article mentions that you may have to re-install your burning software after deleting the filters. For the complete articles on both, click on the CD/RW link in my post and scroll to Section 12, article 10; Section 100, article 31.
Also when uninstalling the IDE controller, we have found that you have better luck restarting the computer than using the action tab.
Consider reinstalling your burning software (Sonic, Roxio, Nero.. Sonu already suggested iTunes) and see if this corrects the problem.

Best Regards!

God, grant me the senility to forget the people I never liked anyway,
the good fortune to run into the ones I do and the eyesight to tell the
difference.
