CD Drive can't detect any cd

hi, im having problem with my cd drive. Laptop: Dell Inspiron 2200 OS: Windows xp home Cd drive model: HL-DT ST CD RW/DVD GCC4 4 Whenever i put Cds/dvds in, error message appeared saying that the cd is corrupted and not configured to windows. Ive searched for the cd drive model but cant find it anywhere and now i cant do anything with it. please help thank you

the entire model of the drive is HL-DT ST CD RW/DVD GCC4 4. thats wat device manager told me and i cant run the diagnostic as cd drive cant read cd.

Please post the entire model number of the drive.  You will find it in the
Device Manager.  Also, run the Dell Diagnostics on the drive.  The Dell
Diagnostics will be on the Dell Resources disk.

That description is currupted.  That means the wrong Firmware has caused a problem.
Try flashing the correct Firmware and see if you get lucky and get the drive back.
You have nothing to lose at this point.  If you cannot get the drive back, it will
need to be replaced.

ok the model is HL-DT ST CD RW/DVD GCC 4244. it showed that after i reinstall the drive. i cant find any firmware for that model anywhere. google searrch, lg website and also dell drivers and download page.
