CD Drive does not recognize any CD's
I installed a TDK CD R/W about a year ago. Both drives worked find until about 3 mos ago. Now the factory installed CD does not recognize any CD that is put in the drive. I can go to my computer and click on the the drive and the message says to place a CD in the Drive. When I do a troubleshoot I get that the drive is performing fine. What's happened. I should say I have done several windows updates since the install. Could this be the problem?

Hi Birdie,
It is possible a Windows driver may have been over written.
Click on the CD/RW link in my post and scroll to Section 15, article 1; Section 20, article 3. Run these and seeif either of them helps.

Hi Birdie,
Thanks, your hard drive will be on the Primary so no need to uninstall Primary controller.
When you installed the TDK, what jumper setting did you use? Dell uses the Cable Select jumper feature, not Master/Slave. You may need to enter the BIOS and veirfy that the IDE channel is set to Auto and that both Drive 0 & Drive 1 are turned on.
