CD drives stopped working

Hey, this is my first post.  But I don't know what else to do to fix my problem.  I have a Dimension 2400 and when I uninstalled my Roxio program both my D: and E: drives stopped working.  Nothing happens when I put a CD in.  I tried system restore but that didn't work.  In device manager both drives have the exclamation point highlighted yellow, if that means anything.  If ANYONE knows how to fix this, PLEASE let me know.  the drives are HL-DT-ST CD-RW GCE-8483B and Memorex DVD16+/- DL4RW/D2 USB Device.
THANKS!!!

I tried that, when it was restarted, it said new hardware available, and in device manager it showed exclamation points highlighted in yellow and it won't do anything when a CD is inserted.  Anything else I can try?

Hi,
The issue is simple .. The drivers have become corrupt for the drives .. All you need to do is go into device manager .. Riight click on the drives .. It will give you an option of uninstalling .. Click on uninstall and restart the system ..  Win xp has a default set of drivers it will take the back up and set the drivers right ..

It also says this:
Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)
if that helps...

Hi Mandarin,

The Code 39 error is related to the Upper & Lower Filters, the uninstall of Roxio was the clue. Please click on the CD/RW link in my post and scroll to Section 100, article 31 for the Microsoft article on the steps to correct your problem.

Best Regards!

That worked great, THANKS!  only downside was it somehow disabled my Musicmatch Jukebox from recognizing CDs.  Think if i uninstall/reinstall, it would fix that?

Hi Mandarin,

Please go ahead do the reinstall, some Members reported having to reinstall their burning software after running the article.

Best Regards!
