Thanks, I tried this before and it didn't work- it deleted all the files in the device manager under that registry but it would not delete the file named properties and the file 000 is still there with a default icon in the right pane

Hi, alunie,

Please go to the CD/DVD FAQ (link below) and follow the instructions under "code 39 error". That will fix this problem.

Then it's possible you didn't delete the correct registry entries. Please go HERE and use the "Fix it" button, which works for XP and Vista.

Thanks, but I tried and no luck, at the end of the process it states, the device (that being the TSST Corp Drive) that is experiencing a problem whic prevents it from working properly

Alunie,

Run the Dell diagnostics on your DVD drive with a data disc in the drive. I'm pretty sure it will pass but I want to rule out a hardware issue.

My suggestion would be NOT to pay for any "registry repair" software.

Are you recommending the OP purchase software from a site that you run? Because that smells an awful lot like SPAM to me. :emotion-12:

Thanks, in the end I  did a system restore point to the last update before I installed itunes and it worked
