Cd player won't close
My cd (samsung driver)opens fine but won't close. This has been going on for quite awhile but we figured it was a virus or software issue that we couldn't detect. I've recently replaced the operating system and have hardly any software installed at this time and it continues. I have tried to uninstall it-reboot and then restart and that didn't work either.
Any ideas what I can do? Thanks!

I'm not sure if I'm under warranty any more or not. The paperwork is mia.
I do think the system is clean. Windows XP has been completely reinstalled and the software is clean and legit. I'm running Microsoft Antispyware along with my regular virus scanner as well as using Firefox for a browser.
Any idea how difficult it would be to try to replace it myself?

Hi Knelso,
John ~ Osprey is currently off-line, replacing the drive is fairly easy. A good habit, although not set in stone, go to Device Manager, click the "+" next to DVD/CD Devices, select the drive you wish to remove and click Uninstall, then shutdown. Dell ships their systems using the Cable Select jumper feature so on the new drive place the small plastic jumper on the back of the drive over the pins labeled CS, CSEL or Cable. You can hover your mouse over the Product Support Tab above, click on User Guides, enter information for your system an scroll to Removing and Adding Parts.
As to your current drive, may I ask, after re-installing Windows XP, did you install the Intel Chipset Drivers, if not this can cause odd issues with devices?
Best Regards
God, grant me the senility to forget the people I never liked anyway,
the good fortune to run into the ones I do and the eyesight to tell the
difference.

No I didn't install the Intel Chipset Drivers. I'm afraid I don't even know what they are (sorry). Is this fairly easy to accomplish?
I did uninstall the driver and reboot so the system reinstalled it. This didn't seem to help any either.
