cd rom causing computer to freeze

Hi I have a dimension E510 and whenever I try to burn a cd or dvd on my cd/dvd burner(HL-DT-ST DVD+RW GWA4164B) it tells me there is no disk in it and then it freezes up my computer after I eject it and put it back in. I would appreciate any help anyone may be able to offer.

See if the Dell firmware for this drive will help.

I tried loading the firmware and it told me it was the same or older than I have, but I loaded it anyway and the computer still freezes when I try to burn a CD or DVD. The drive won't even acknowledge a blank CD/DVD it keeps asking for a CD/DVD to be inserted. The drive will read CD's with data on them though. Any other Ideas would be appreciated.             Thanks  Bob
