CD Rom not working
All of a sudden my CD-rom door stays open all the time. I have checked to see that the driver is working; it's recognized etc......the door just stays open all the time. If I put a CD in (blank or with data) it just spits it right back out without reading the CD and stays open. Any suggestions?
Thank you.

Hi Magnoliaswamprat,
To add with Iknowabc`s; Go back to Device Manager, select the drive and click Uninstall; then shutdown.
You did not mention what Dell system you have, so you may need to check the manual. Open the case and reseat (Unplug/Replug) the wide flat gray IDE cable going from the mother board to the back of the drive. Some times a loose IDE connection can cause odd issues. Close the case and restart your system, did this help?
If the answer is no, click on the CD/RW link in my post and scroll to Section 20, article 3. This covers the controller.
Also it is possible the emergency eject button may be slightly jammed, same CD/RW link Section 6-5, article 14.
Best Regards

Hi Rachel,
I must say, A very lovely Welcome page; "Under the Magnolia Moon"
If none of the steps I mentioned helped, may I ask what is the name/model of the drive in question, Dell may have a firmware update available.?
Same CD/RW link, Section 12, article 3, step #2 to run the Dell diagnostic (if the tray will stay closed long enough)
Best Regards
