CD speed inside Cd-DVD drive?
The XPS 600 came with two drives:
CD drive burner and DVD drive burner.
When I put an audio CD inside any of the drives, the drive produces no audible noise.
When I put a CD-R inside, the drive becomes exceedingly noisy. It seems that the speed inside the drive is enormous.
Is this normal?

I have no distortion of any kind when playing audio.
However, the speed at which the drive spins depends on the program I use.
With the SAME drive and SAME CD, there is no noise when using Windows Media Player (low speed) and a terrible noise (very high speed) when using Real Player.
Can you check this on your own computer?

I found Nero "Drive Speed" for free over the Internet.
It allows to change the drive speed from 16x up to 48x by 8x increments.
I put it on 16x and the noise is now zero with Media Player and small with RealPlayer.

Very interesting. Did you notice that "CD Recording" was on the tab.
I hope that adjusting the speed of the CD recording keeps its value when CD reading.
I shall experiment on it.

I made the experiment. Unfortunately, it does not change the reading speed but only teh writing speed.
So I use "Nero Drive Speed" at 16x with Windows Media Player and this solves the reading problem: you can not hear any more noise.
