cd tray stays open

I can't get the cd rom tray to stay closed.  I did have to disconnect the cd drive from the computer to remove a broke disc but now it wont do anything but stay open.  It does close by itsself when I restart the computer but opens back up.  Do I have to reinstall the driver since the drive was completely removed from the computer?  Dell Dimension 4550 and the cd drive is a samsung.

itswayback,

Since you disconnected and removed the drive, check carefully that the connectors
are securely seated.  Check that the IDE cable is secure at both the drive and at
the motherboard and that the pins for the connector at the drive are not bent.

Skybird,

Thanks for the help, I took the whole cd tray apart and found a little piece of the cd stuck in there.  I also cut off the power supply to the computer and of course reconnected all the IDE cable and the other connector too.  I don't know which part of all this fixed the problem but it works now.  I'm listening to the best of Fleetwood Mac now.  Thanks again... take care.
