CD won't burn

I'm trying to burn music from my computer to blank Memorex CD-R and Windows Media Player does not recognize any blank cds in the cd drives. On the slots on my computer it reads: "DVD Rom" on both slots and "RW" on the lower slot.

My question is:   Can I not burn CDs because it only says DVD? or does that even matter? We burn DVDs all the time no problem.. but the blank cds aren't recognized, and i've tried a few different brands already.

Thank you!

Hi pseudoaddress,

All DVD burners can burn blank CD media. Would you please tell me the model of your Dell PC and operating system?

When you burn DVDs, do you use only the lower drive? Can you just check the model numbers of both drives for me in device manager?

yes, the lower drive  - in device manager, it reads:

-HL-DT-ST DVD+-RW GWA4164B

-SONY DVD-ROM DDU1615

Is this what you needed?

Ok, let's try this. Download the Nero Infotool and install that. Run that program with a blank CD in the drive and tell me if the tool correctly reads your blank disc.

Yes.

ok - now that i downloaded it - InstallShield Wizard is telling me that "Nero 11 InfoTool required the following items to be installed on your computer. Requirements:

MS1 4.5 WindowsXP (x86)

Microsoft VC Redist 2010 (x86)

Reboot Validator

Should i just go ahead and install these items as well? or are they necessary?

Yes, go ahead and install them.

InfoTool is a great diagnostic utility. That's why I recommend it. It can sort out a hardware from a software problem pretty quickly.

As I suggested above, run that program with a blank CD in the drive and tell me if the tool correctly reads your blank disc.

ok, it gave me quite a few 'supported read/write features'. to be honest, i have no idea what i'm reading here.
