CD Works - DVD Does Not Work
I am running a Dell XPS400 w/ CD and DVD player, OS = WinXP
I can place a music CD in the player and it works OK but when I put in a DVD in the player it is not recognizing the DVD. I try to open the DVD from the file but the DVD does not show up to be opened.
Can anyone offer any suggestions on how to correct this problem.

Please work through these standard troubleshooting steps first. Some of the diagnostics will also test the ability to read DVDs, so try that first.

All I can say is thank you. I am not sure I can tell you what I did to fix my problem but as of right now my DVD is working. I went through the steps that you outlined and each one was yeilding negative results. I got down to my inserting my Dell Resource CD and for some reason after I downloaded that I put a DVD in the drive and it came up and started working.
I am not sure if the Resource CD alone did the trick but it is working. If you have any input I would appreciate any comments.
