cd/dvd drives - formatting

Hi All,  Attempted to save data onto a cd- for the first time--- no luck.  Then attempted on dvd data disc with other dvd read/write drive.  Still no luck.  Do I need to prep discs (format) or something before use?

Normally, no. What program are you using to write to CDs? What discs (brand, speed, format)? And it couldn't hurt to provide the model number of your system and both your drives.

Hi there, I hope this is the right forum to be posting this problem. I have a Dimension 4600 desktop and i've just bought Half Life 2 game pack with Counter Strike Source included. When I put the Cd in the drive, it does not autoplay. Ive gone to My Computer to manually start it but it says there is no disc in the drive. I have tried both the CD RW drive and the DVD drive. Please can someone help me or give me a link to an updated driver to get this problem sorted. I do not know a lot about computers and would desperately like to get this game up and running. I am running WIndows XP Home Edition as my operating system.
