cdrom.sys file not found

Forum,

I am currently upgrading a Latitude CP from Win 95 to Win 2000 Pro. The upgrade sequence runs fine until the end when cdrom.sys file not found error message appears and causes the upgrade to fail. The cd-rom runs other applications with no problems.

Any suggestions towards resolution would be appreciated.

have you tried booting the win2k cd and installing and if and when it asks for previous media you just put in your old win95 cd...

do note: its always cleaner, easier to copy the files you need to save to another system (or cdrw's) and then format and do a clean install (rather than upgrade on what you have)

freonchill,

Thanks for your response to my inquiry. I will try to resolve my original problem with your suggestion.

I needed to get up and running so I installed Win 98 2nd edition with no problems other than the display will not go any higher than 16 colors. I cannot get 16 bit high color, 32 bit true or 256 color. I tried lowering the hardware accelerator to no avail. Is 16 colors the maximum video output of the CP's graphic adapter?

Thanks again.
