CDRW woes continue...

I'm working on an Inspiron 1300 with Windows XP, and the CD-Rom is that HT-DT-ST CDRW GCC4244 piece of junk.  The problem started when I was trying out different burning programs, and I think that Feurio or Adaptec messed something up, which I thought I fixed in the registry.  Anyway, I ended up buying Acoustica, for which I'd used the trial version just a few days ago (it worked fine), but now I can't burn anything.  I've also tried the factory installed burner (Sonic) and it doesn't recognize the drive either.

 

Is there ANYONE who knows what the deal is here?!?!?!?!?

I don't think Adaptec makes any burning software???

Anyway, it is most likely a XP problem. When you install/uninstall burning software, XP tends to get the burners corrupted.

Instead of peeking and poking, why not try the end fix first?

In Device Manager, delete the drive. Then remove the Upper/Lower filters from the Registry.

Upper/Lower Filters:

a. Click on Start --> Run --> and type in 'regedit' followed by the enter key

b. Expand the "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE" key (looks like a folder) by double clicking it (or clicking the "+" next to it.)

c. Expand the "SYSTEM" Key

d. Expand the "CurrentControlSet" Key

e. Expand the "Control" Key

f. Expand the "Class" Key

g. Please look for a key containing the following string of letter and numbers:
{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

h. High light this key by left clicking once on it

i. On the right hand side you are looking for "UpperFilters" and "LowerFilters" under the "Name" column, once you find these please delete them by right clicking on them and choosing "delete"

j. Please exit the registry by clicking on the "X" in the top right hand corner of the screen

Reboot your computer

thanks, i did all that before.  now my acoustica program is working, but another program i use for erasing CDRW's still doesn't recognize the drive.  strange...

XP will erase RW media, does it work?

as i said before, my Acoustica burner is working again, so the only problem i have is the Sonic program.  since i only needed it to erase CDRW's, i just decided to use Windows Media Player for that instead, and it works fine.  i think the problem might lie in the IMAPI function.  IF you can find it, in your burning program, try deactivating it if it's on.  that's all i can think of at this point.
