Configure bios/adding another SATA Drive
I just added a 500gb Sata drive to my Dell8300. I cloned it with info from the 120gb Sata drive which the system came with.
I left the orig. cable/harddrive attached to the Mboard as it was, and plugged the new drive into the free sata connection.
When I go into bios, the only way I can get the new drive to boot is to turn off the orig. drive. If not, it will boot to old drive.
I'm guessing I have to swap the cables on the Mboard sata connector for it to boot to new drive? Or, can I set it up in the Bios to do so? (I have tried, but to no avail)
Also, when I get it booting properly, how do I go about getting WinXP to show both drives in explorer? At present, if I have both drives turned on in bios, it will boot to old drive, but not show new drive in explorer...
Just a guess here, but i'm wondering if because the old drive was cloned onto the new drive, I would have to rename the drive letters to get it to show?
Motherboard is Dell 0W2562 and BIOS: Dell Computer Corporation A03 09/19/2003

When you clone a hard drive, after cloning you need to disconnect the data cable from the 'old' hard drive and connect it to the new 500gb hard drive making the C:/ bootdrive and see if the new drive boots.
Note: Leave the 'old' drive disconnected until the new 500gb C:/ drive is working to your satisfaction, then you can install it as the secondary hard drive and use XP's disk management to partition and format it.
With SATA the 'Master' or Primary hard drive is connected to the motherboard's SATA-0 connector.
