Cyber Link Power DVD Software

This program was factory installed by Dell. It was playing all dvd media disks until recently. Could it be prior to upgrade of XP2 (not sure). However, I am not able to play any dvd-media disks now as of insufficient decoders. I get the message "DVD Error code 8004027B-Dvd Video playback could not be built due to insufficient decoders".

How "decoders' get lost? Could it be a problem with my Nec DVD+RW ND-1100A drive and not with the Cyber Link Software? I have extended warranty from Dell.

Please help me.

Hi Kanti,

I believe the problem may be the software does not like SP2. Have you tried uninstalling PowerDVD and then re-installing it. I would suggest you see if Dell or Cyberlink has any updates to address SP2, I would check for you Kanti but for some reason our Internet connection is coming & going, wrote this three times already, sorry....

Best Regards

Hi Jeff,

I have uninstgalled the Power DVD from control panel>add or remove programs. However, when I tried to installed the program from Dell's PowerDVD cd there is a problem. I get the following:

IKernel.exe could not be copies to "c:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\Engine\6\Intel 32". Make sure that you have the appropriate privileges to copy files to this folder (0x20). ok.

What have I done wrong? Have I caused more problems? Please sort out my mess.

Kanti:

Take a look at this:

http://consumer.installshield.com/kb.asp?id=Q108247

These instructions seem pretty straightforward but post back if you're still having trouble.

osprey4,

Many thanks for your help. You are right the instructions are straight forward. I have "End process" IKernel.exe in Task Manager as per instruction. However, when I tried to delete Engine directory from Windows Explorer c:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield|Engine got "Error Deleting File or Folder message like this: "Cannot delete knwrap.exe : access denied. Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is not in currently in use".

Under Engine there are two more sub-folder like this: Engine>6\Intel32 (and there are 10 files in Intel32 folder - including knlwrap.exe and Ikernel.exe).

Also there is this file called knlwrap.exe in Task Manger (ctrl+alt+delete process).

Do I delete the knlwrap.exe from Task Manager and then delete the folder Engine In Windows Explorer c:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\Engine or delete sub-folders first and the Engine folder.

Please let me know as I don't want to do something which may caused further problems.

Many thanks,

Kanti

Surprisingly, I was able to re-installed Cyber Link PowerDVD program. I have only completed the part of the instruction - namely End Porocess of IKernel.exe in Task Manager. The program is now re-installed correctly and I am able to play dvd media disks. However, the file IKernel.exe is not seen in Process in Task Manager. I hope it would not have any effect on the performance of the system.

No, you'll be fine. That process is used during installations but otherwise should not be running. Good luck!
