D & E drives not detected

everything was fine last night .... burned a CD, watched a DVD. to night I inserted a movie nothing happened. Clicked on "play" and got an error "no disc." clicked on "my computer" it showed the A drive, the C drive, the printer, some folders but no indication of D: or E; drives

why aren't they being detected any longer? how do I get them back?

I am on a dell 8400 media center desk top running XP. thnx.

Look in the Device Manager .............

Start | Control Panel | System in classic view | Hardware tab | Device Manager

Click on the (+) next to DVD/CD-ROM drives.  Right-click the drive and select
Properties.  Is there an Error Code (number)?

I'm having the same problem.  I do have an error code number and that is 39.  What do I need to do now?
