D600 CD-RW/DVD Module not being recognized

Hello,

I just received my new Latitude D600 Pentium M notebook with a removable DELL CD-RW/DVD-ROM (ultra speed) module located on the right-hand side of the notebook.  I believe the part number is:  DELL LBL P/N 8W007-A01.  When exploring my system through the DELL website, it doesn't detect it.  Although I have the service tag, the DELL support page hasn't registered it yet as it keeps telling me it is invalid.  I am running Windows 2000.  The CD-RW/DVD-ROM module does not seem to be recognized.  I cannot access it through Windows Explorer, DOS prompt, not by any other means.  I tried to see if I could install it via ADD/Remove hardware in Windows.  I cannot seem to find the right choice to pick.  I updated my BIOS from version A11 to A12 and no change.  In the BIOS, the modular bay reads CD-ROM.  When booting, I get this quick flash message

Why won't my system detect it?  What can I do to fix this?  If anyone can help, it would be greatly appreciated.

Hedden,

Thank you for using Dell's Community Forum.

Try reseating the drive, by removing it, and then firmly, putting in back in the system.

I'm having the same problem. I've already tried removing the drive and reinserting it, and rebooting, and all that jazz. Nothing of that sort seems to work. Please help.
