Dell CD Drive Crash Error
I have a Dell Inspiron 1545 with Windows 7, and when I try to install games like Need for Speed Most Wanted or Star Wars Jedi Academy Jedi Knight, at the 2nd disk, my CD makes a very disturbing noise and it sounds like it stuffed, and then I get an error message, followed by McAfee telling me that real-time scanning has been disabled and I have to manually enable it. Everything else is fine so I'm sure it's not a virus, but I think it might be a driver problem with the disks unable to continue installation from 1 disk to another, as I just upgraded from Windows Vista to Windows 7. Can someone please help me out here?

Hi Agoraptor,
After all the grinding sound and the McAfee problem, is the drive able to read the disc? Do you see any errors next to your CD/DVD drive in device manager?

Yeah, it reads the disk but the installation for some reason does not continue, and I don't see any errors in device manager =[

Yeah the drive can read the disc, it shows autorun on my screen but the installation always fails to continue. I don't see any errors next to my CD/DVD drive in device manager =[

Well, it would be worth running the Dell diagnostics on your drive first, just to determine if there is any problem with the drive at the hardware level. Run the READ test with a data CD in the drive.

I ran the Dell Diagnostics, everything read pass, nothing was wrong, maybe its coincidental that 2 games with several installation disks are spoiled? either that or my cd drive is unable to continue installations between disks.

Here's another diagnostic trick. Disable all autoplay options for all disc types. In other words, have them all set to "take no action". Then insert the disc. In order to start the installation, you'll need to open the disc in My Computer or Explorer and manually start the setup program. See if that works or if it disables McAfee just as before.
