Dell Customer Report =Poor

I ordered an Inspiron 6000 on Dec. 10th and still haven't received it!! No on will call and talk to me. I have called their customer support and I am put on hold and then speak to someone in India who can only answer from a scripted response. Is this typical of Dell support? I am concerned I may have the same problem with technical issues.

It took me 6 weeks to get my Inspiron 6000 and the paid-for extended warranty.  After numerous calls to India and Toronto, repeating the same information over and over again I received my computer, only to have startup problems.

The first problem I had was that Dell accidently (re: incompetently) cancelled my first order for the computer and the 3 year next business day extended warranty (which I had purchased at a promotional rate).  When I called 10 days later to find out the computer's status and found out what had happened, they reordered the system, but forgot to include the warranty.  You'd think it would be a matter of them just changing the warranty to the 3-year in my account...but no.  At one point their only solution was to charge me an extra $100 for the warranty I had already purchased.  No one seemed to clue in that this was their error, not mine.  After more phone calls to managers/supervisors who only sometimes return calls, I demanded a free memory key and wireless modem.

As for the startup problems, which I was having on Day 2 of receiving my computer, I ordered a replacement...only to receive a replacement that was worse than the original...loud fan, adapter plug that didn't stay attached to the cable securely, a keyboard that wasn't attached securely, and a letter N key not attached at all....and because at that time I was still fighting for the 3 year next business day warranty that I had originally purchased but did not get, Dell refused to have someone help me with the replacement unless I paid the full cost of the visit.  To cut this story short, I ended up returning the replacement computer, and just tolerated the intermitant startup problems (i.e. computer does not startup after being in hibernation mode) as I was in dire need of a laptop for my school thesis.

If I had to do it all over again, I would never have gone with Dell.
