Dell Dimension E510 hard drive capacity?
I have a Dell Dimension E510 that currently has a 160 GB hard drive. I want to replace the hard drive with a larger one sometime later on down the road. I need to know what is the largest hard drive this model can accomidate. I have already called Dell and asked a sales rep, he gave me some conflicting information. First he said 2 GB (as if, the PC currently has a 160 GB drive), then he said it's max is a 2,000 GB drive. Now I know that it's max isn't a 2 GB, but 2,000 GB sounds too unrealistic. I don't know if there even is such a thing as a 2,000 GB hard drive!
Anyone know for real what is the largest Hard Drive the E510 can accommidate?

I have an E510.
I've had a 500GB installed in mine. But, it will take the 1TB drives available. There are 1.5TB drives but I don't know of anyone that has installed one in an E510 (or the identical 5150) but theoretically it will work.

I believe the E510 uses the SATA standard.. thus you can stuff any hard drive in there. They do make 2,000GB hard drives, but they are normally called Terabyte drives.. Aka 1 Terabyte and 2 Terabyte... I dunno why you would need THAT much space, buuut it should work.

I definatly could use a large drive, but a one or two terabyte drive is definatly un-neccessary. I am a big flight sim enthusiast. I just purchased a copy of the latest version of the flight sim "X-Plane". I found to my disappointment that my current hard drive lacks the free space needed to fully install the sim with all it's scenery. I plan to upgrade this PC's existing hard drive to a 250, 320, or 500 GB drive sometime next month.

I have a 1TB Hitachi hard drive on my Win 7 64 bit system, but that system is also used for my Sonar recording studio software and the Sonar files can get relatively large, depending on the recording.

I just got a 1tb Hitachi hard drive. My computer does not see it. I checked all the cables and they work. Any insight to how my pc can find the drive.

Hi Eman8567,
Did you boot to the BIOS and set the appropriate SATA channel to ON? I think you might have missed that step.
