Dimension 3100 -- can I install IDE hard drive as second drive?

Just got a Dimension 3100 with SATA H/D as drive one.  Can I install the IDE drive from my old computer as a second hard drive,  using the 2nd connector on the IDE cable presently servicing the DVD/Rom drive?

If so, do I jumper the IDE drive as "slave" or "cable select".  I'm not sure if the existing cable is long enough to reach the spare H/D bay, but I could always install the old drive in an optical bay with a 3.5 to 5.5 inch adapter bracket, I suppose.

Anything I have to do in the BIOS to get it to recognize the new drive, once installed?

Thanks.
