Dimension 8100 and Second Hard Disk

Question

Hi, Does anyone know how to get my Dimension 8100's BIOS to recognise my new second hard drive once it's installed????? Please help, cause I'm going insane

Also, the hard drive needs partitioning and formating to be recognized by windows. Which version of windows are you running?

Thank you for visiting the Dell Community Forum.

You should just have to set the appropriate drive to Auto in the system BIOS and the system should detect it. If you are having problems with the drive being detected, check the jumpers settings on the hard drive and make sure they are set to cable select; with the drive set to cable select and connected to the middle connector with the existing hard drive it should be configured as the slave.

After the second HD is installed, set to "Auto" [on] in the BIOS and then in order for windows to recognize the second hard drive, it must be patitioned and formatted. These are generic instructions for installing an additional hard drive using Windows XP Disk Management, they are by Seagate, but apply to
all brands.
