Ok, me too.  My DVD drive pops open randomly.  I have a Latitude d830 (new June 2008) with a TSSTcorp DVD+-RW TS-L632H drive and randomly the drive pops open.  I have had this do this under multiple OS's, XP, Linux, and when it is booting in Linux.  It OS independent and is not due to a virus.  It opens  with and without a disk in the drive. I have also tried upgrading the firmware.  This too did not help. I DID upgrade the BIOS as soon as I got the laptop.  I was considering downgrading the BIOS, but after seeing multiple postings here and other places with the same defect on other computers, I am sure that it is not a BIOS issue.   I have been thinking about calling Dell for a replacement as this seems to happen about once a day and is getting annoying for being a very new device.
