DMA mode for DVD writter does not work
Hello,
I am experiencing very loooong burning times (x16 = 45 minutes) and when the DVD (or the CD) is being burned, the PC (Dimension 1100 with a DVD writer NEC ND-3540A) becomes unresposive. I checked the DMA configuration, and for the HD (primary master, alone device in the IDE0), the device manager says UDMA mode 5, but for the DVDRW (secondary master, alone in the IDE1) it says PIO mode, and cannot let me change that.
Is there any solution, or this Dell model isn't capable of burning CD/DVDs?
Thanks, Jacobo

Hi Jacobo,
Enter the bIOS and verify that the drives are turned on. We have seen this as the issue a few times.
Also, consider reloading the IDE channel, click on the CD/RW link in my post and scroll to Section 20, article 3.
Best Regards!

Hey, nice job with your cd/dvd link. It is very complete. I've did the steps (removing the DVD drive and the IDE channel from the device manager and restart) and now the DVD drive is in UDMA2.
Many thanks, problem solved :)
