Does adding hard drive capacity make it faster???

Question

To increase running speed I've heard that separating operating files from media is best.  By adding a second hard drive, it will be faster.   First, any validity to this???   Second, does it matter whether it is an internal or external hard drive?  Is one more efficient that the other?

The hard drive is just a data storage device, just like any other data storage media. It has nothing to do with how fast your system runs.

Understand, but the theory around the two hard drives is that searching for operation files would be faster with out having to read through the media at the same time.

When Windows saves a file to the HD it places a buffer just before it and a 'flag' at the start of it. The read heads have no problem finding the flag. That is what FAT-32 and NTFS is for. The thing that can slow the transfer from the HD to RAM is the size of the file. But, go ahead, what have you got to lose?

i put all my games on my 160 sata leave swap file on my 120gb and games do load faster and close faster as the hdd isn't trying to access two things at once, expectially when age empires 3, unreal 2004 both load about 500mb ram
