Dual Layer or not

Question

When ordering a Dell Precision M4300 with an optional 8x DVD+/-RW Drive, will it support writing of dual layer dvd's? In general how do you know wether or not it does?

To my knowledge, the latest DVD burner do support dual-layer burning.You may want to contact Dell Sales for a confimation.

Look in the Device Manager ......... Start | Control Panel | System in classic view | Hardware tab | Device Manager Click on the (+) next to DVD/CD-ROM drives.  This will reveal the Brand and Model ofdrive.  Please post that and we will check if the manual is available.

I haven't got the laptop yet... I'm considering buying it and I wanted to know if it 'would' support dual layer. So I can't look in the device manager :).

According to the dell representative I chatted with it doesn't support dual layer writing. That's a shame. One would think that on a 1700 euro laptop you would have the opportunity of buying a drive that can write dual layer dvd's. Anyways, thanks for the help skybird.

I think they were incorrect.  I feel confident the newer drives support Dual-layer.

I had problems in believing what the dell representative had said and now I found that she/he was probably wrong...

When I select the Precision M4300 in the support section, choose download drivers, select the category CD/DVD I see two drivers, for two types of drives. Both drive types (GSA-T21N 12.7 tray IDE DVD+/-RW and TS-L632H slim 8x DVD+/-RW) support Dual Layer writing...

Could it be she/he didn't even look it up before answering me?
