DVD burning using Sonic products freezing computer

My Dimension 8400 freezes with a blue screen and various long error messages when i try to burn dvd's using Sonic MYDVD products via a philips DVD+RW DVD8601 (supplied with the 8400).  The error message mentions Bios updates?  Help please?

Hi, TJM:

I need to know at exactly what point the blue screen error appears and the error itself.

I'll take one wild guess. There are frequent problems with Sonic DLA producing blue screen errors when finalizing discs. If you have DLA installed, try uninstalling it and see if things improve.

Thanks for the response the blue screen appears at the point the burn starts, i.e. it recognises the writer and the fact that a disc is inserted ready starts the burn processs and goes to blue screen.

The error messages include STOP 0x0000008E; 0XC0000005; 0X8070194F; 0XAE12EAD8; 0X00000000.  I hope this means something to you and thanks for your help.

I have been looking up the bugs on the website and have gone around in circles!  What is Somic DLA?

Regards

TJM:

Sonic DLA ("Drive letter access") is a program that allows you to save individual files from any application. The convenience, however, is outweighed by the associated issues. My suggestion would be to uninstall it if you see it listed in add/remove.

I also found this thread that seems to pertain to a similar issue. One suggestion was to completely unload Sonic and the upper/lower filters. To remove the filters, follow the article in the CD/DVD FAQ under "code 39 error". After you do that, try the XP CD burning wizard to make sure the drive is still able to write. Then you can try reinstalling Sonic.
