DVD-R or DVD+ R ??!!!!!!!!

 Hi!
I have got an Inspiron 6400 with a NEC+-RW ND-6650A Dvd burner. I have downloaded some softward to help me burn DVDs (Gear) since nothing seems to be installed to do it.

 I have 2 questions

 1. should there be software installed to help me burn DVDs and if so what should be called. If not, is there a good free one that is not on a trial period.

 2. When I put in a DVD-R disk it tells me that it is not blank or it is not recognised by the drive. Should I be using DVD +R disks or is there a problem with my drive?!

I really appreciate all guidance :smileyvery-happy:

There should be burning software installed.  In the programs list,
look for Sonic or Roxio.  There are some good free burning software
available, for example ............

Your burner will burn both DVD-R and DVD+R.  There is a Firmware update
available from Dell that may help with writing additional brands of DVD
media here ..............
