DVD-R verus DVD+R

ok folks, i just got an NEC ND-3500A DVD+R/RW drive and can't wait to burn some of my old dvds.  now here's the deal, which media format should i use DVD-R or DVD+R?  i am looking for reliability as well as compatibiliy to play with my dvd players.  what the major differences/advantages between these two formats?

thanks much in advance.

Hey smokarz,

I was doing research on different drives and ran across that one.  I have heard lots of good things about it and one site performed a thourough test on it.  Their results showed that DVD+R burnt slightly faster than DVD-R.  Overall they said, they are the same except the speeds.

I am planning to buy that same model too.  Please let me know how everything goes with it, and how you like it.  Thanks!

smokarz:

It depends on what you want to burn. If it's data, pretty much any media will do. However, for movies, you need to check your DVD player's compatibility. There are sites that provide compatibility information for desktop DVD players. Google "video help" and click I'm feeling lucky, then go to DVD players and look up yours.

just wanna provide an update on this burner since i last write about it.  i've burned about 2 dozens dvds on this baby already, without a glitch using nero.  i burned mostly movies on 8x memorex dvd-r which actually burned at 12x with the nero burning app.  it takes about 17 min to burn a complete dvd (4.4gb).  true to the words, this thing is very quite, you hardly notice that the drive is even running.
