DVD Rom playing too fast
I have a Dell 4600 with a DVD Rom. It has worked fine until the last few days where it plays DVD's too fast and the sound is choppy. CD's play just fine in the same drive.
I have tried a dry cleaner to clean the lens, but it doesn't seem to have helped.
Could this be a setting? Or could this be a sign that the DVD player is going bad?

Hi Soonerrick,
It could be both; lets start with some standard steps.
Click on the CD/Rw link in my post and scroll to Scetion 15, articles 1, 14. These cover the drivers using Device Manager and checking that DMA is enabled for the drive.
Next, same CD/RW link, Section 20, article 3, reloading the IDE controller.

Thanks Predator. I went through your steps once and it seems to have the same problems. I'll run through them again to make sure I did everything correct.

Hi Soonerrick,
Reloading the IDE controller has helped others in the past, was hoping it would you as well.
If it is setting, you might get lucky with XP restore feature, roll the system back to a date before the problem started.
