DVD ROM
I am just now getting interested in backing up my DVDs. I was under the impression when I purchase my XPS Dimension Gen2 system the DVD player had writing capabilities but it doesn't appear to. The unit is identified as: HL-DT-ST DVD-ROM GDR8162B.
Is someone familiar with this type of device and could tell me if it is in face only a RO drive. I believe it is but want to make sure

Hi Golfclubbuilder,
Of course you may purhase the drive anywhere you wish, but I would recommend you purchase Retail. The brands we see the most, are Plextor, Pioneer and Retail NEC models. Sony & BenQ get honorable mention as well.
As for backing up your DVD`s, if you say "home" DVD`s, then the Members here can help you or point you in a direction.
If they are commercial DVD`s, Hollywood movies, we cannot.
Best Regards!
Oops, sorry, try New Egg for on-line shopping.
God, grant me the senility to forget the people I never liked anyway,
the good fortune to run into the ones I do and the eyesight to tell the
difference.
