DVD+RW problem with Roxio easy CD creator v.5

Question

This is a continuation of a question that I asked a few weeks ago so please bear with me if it is repetitive. I am trying to copy digital pictures from my hard drive to a DVD+RW disk using Easy CD creator v.5. I have tried Memorex and Sony disks - neither worked.

Hardware specifics
Window XP (no SP2)
Dell Dimension 4550 - purchased in Nov 2002 with the following installed
4x DVD+RW drive NEC DVD+RW NK-1100a
Easy CD Creator v. 5

Some people said that this version of Easy CD Creator can copy to DVD+RW. Others said that it does not.
Someone suggested downloading a file from Dell called R59801.exe which is an updated file for the DVD hardware. I downloaded this file, following the instructions very carefully. Bottom line is that it still does not work.

So is this a software or hardware problem? I would really like to speak with someone from Dell and am willing to devote a long time to getting this resolved. Please point me in the right direction. I don't even know what phone number to call to speak to someone knowledgeable.

This is very simple.

When you open up Easy CD Creator 5, does it have any menu items for DVD related
capabilites? If it doesn't, then in all likelihood it is probably safe to say
that the version you does not support writing to DVD.

I have Easy CD Creator 5 BASIC. When I start it up, the only choices are
Make a Music CD, Make a Data CD, Make a Photo or Video CD, and Disc Copier.

There is a menu item - under FILE, NEW CD PROJECT- called DATA DVD.  This is the only reference that I see.  I have opened this and attempted to copy photos and it hasn't worked.

I have had no problems using data DVD project, even with XP SP2 (I use it to back up my data files, including pictures). Have you updated EasyCD creator basic? There is an update on the Dell downloads

I use TDK 1-4x 4.7GB DVD+RW data/video disks. Have also used Sony DVD+RW data/video (DPW120)

I started off with the NEC 1100A, but after about a year it started going wrong, and Dell replaced it with NEC 2100 AD.

What I would do is get rid of the 1100a drive and get either a plextor or a  pioneer,also uninstall  Roxio easy cd creator v5 . The plextor comes with Roxio7. That 1100 a Burner is a known piece of Junk , I bought my 1100 a when they first came out, I had it for three weeks and I pulled it out and got the plextor 708 a at the time.

I believe that your problem is the Easy CD 5. As you are probably aware, this is an older version of Roxio's software--they have since come out with version 6. then 7,and now 7.5 (see the Roxio website). I do not think that version 5 works well with DVD's and it also has some problems if you have Windows XP with SP2 installed. You should probably update to the latest version of Easy Media Creator. Also, you might want to post your question on the Roxio discussion groups--go to Roxio's website, into support then to discussion groups. Choose an appropriate group and post your problem.

I am in total agreement with Robert. If you want to work with DVD media you need to dump the Nec 1100a drive and upgrade to a newer version of Roxio or similar software. My 8250 came with the Nec1100a drive and would only make coasters with DVD+RW media, and the Roxio 5.0 was modified to work with DVD media and with my experience would never produce a DVD that would play on a stand alone machine, even with the latest updates. I replaced the Nec with a plextor and have been very happy. I use Roxio 7 media creator and have had good success with Nero and Sonic Record Now.

V5 was never intended to produce a Movie DVD, only a Data DVD!!! There was an OEM bundle that included V6 DVD Builder but they are rare.
