DW316 not reading discs

Connected to an Inspiron 14 7440 2-in-1 laptop.

just purchased the drive and it doesn't read CDs nor DVDs.

The Drive is recognized once plugged in but it doesn't read - and I've used discs(including purchased movies) that read on other dvd readers.

Have updated all the latest drivers for the system.

Have uninstalled the CD/DVD rom device manager.

internal tests always say drive is working properly.

Connected a different DVD reader from someone and it reads the discs.

I have this error:

Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)

UCSI PPM failed UCSI command. Please contact UCSI device or system manufacturer to investigate. (Command:GetConnectorCapability Status:0xc0000001)

but the other DVD player works.

Does anyone this configuration and a working DVD player with a solution?

Otherwise, I'll return.

Hi

Try this first

  1. Disconnect the AC adapter, USB-C dock, monitor, charger, and every USB device.

  2. Shut Windows down completely — do not choose Restart.

  3. Once powered off, disconnect mains power. If it is a laptop and the battery is removable, remove it.

  4. Hold the power button for 40–60 seconds.

  5. Leave it disconnected for a minute, then connect only the normal power adapter.

  6. Start Windows and check Device Manager.

A lot of work, so perhaps a return is simpler?

@azrdr Can you connect and verify if the DW316 works with another computer? If you run into the same issue with another system, return and exchange the optical drive for another one. It sounds like an issue with the drive's internal USB controller, which could be defective.

@Kflash08 thx.  Same issue on another laptop; returned and got another DW316 and it worked out of the box.
